Society of Scottish Armigers

VIRTUAL BOARD OF GOVERNORS (BOG) MEETING
21 NOVEMBER 2020, 12 NOON (US EASTERN STANDARD TIME)
VIA ZOOM

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:

Hugh Eglington, Earl of Eglington & Winton, Chief, Clan Montgomery
Andrew Morrison, Viscount Dunrossil
Colonel W.P. Boswell of Toberchurn, USAF (Ret.)
Major Randal Massey of Dunham, USA (Ret.)
Michael McAlpin, Commander, Clan McAlpine
Colonel Wilkins Urquhart of Urquhart, USAF (Ret.), Chief, Clan Urquhart
Kevin Conquest
Donald Draper Campbell
Lieutenant Commander John Glynn of Glynstewart, USN (Ret.)

Invited Guest:

COL Charles Shaw, III, USA (Ret.), SSA Treasurer

The Board took the following actions:

1. The current joining fee of US $100.00 was raised to $130.00, effective immediately. New approved members will receive a society lapel pin, certificate and a yet to be defined name badge. Changes will be made to the SSA website to reflect this. Board member and Society Secretary LCDR John Glynn of Glynstewart will research name badges and make recommendations to the Board.

2. The Society will assume the ownership of the SSA website domain from MAJ. Randal Massey of Dunham. The transition will be handled by the SSA Treasurer, Col. Charles Shaw, III.

3. Donald Campbell was asked by the Chairman to contact Cornelia Bush concerning the publication of an updated 25th anniversary Society Armorial. He will report his findings to the Board.

4. SSA member Earl Dale McAlpine was appointed by the BOG as the Society Assistant Treasurer. This position will provide back-up to the Society Treasurer. The Treasurer provided the BOG with the latest Society financials.

5. The SSA Treasurer will be sending out 2021 Society Dues Notices in December with follow-up notices in January and February and report back to the Board on delinquent dues.

6. LCDR. John Glynn of Glynstewart was nominated and approved by the BOG as a Fellow of the Society. Col Bill Boswell of Toberchurn will forward the neck badge and certificate; the SSA website manager will move his arms to the Fellows section of the website.

The following Board actions are still underway:

1. SSA Tent Spaces. There was a spirited discussion around the Society taking a Clan Tent space at Games. This will continue to be an action item. It initially was planned that the Society would have a tent at the 2021 Stone Mountain, GA Games, but that is still under consideration. Due to the success of the 2020 virtual AGM this is direction being considered by the BOG for future AGMs, as an add-on to an in-person meeting, as this will allow as many society members participate as possible. Future AGMs may or may not coincide with a particular game.

2. Requesting members supply the names, etc. of the heirs in line to inherit their arms. This item was tabled until a future BOG meeting.

3. Col. Bill Boswell of Toberchurn and CAPT. Glen Cook of Kingerly will review the proposal for members to leave a portion of their estate to SSA. Still underway. Results to be reported at a future BOG.

Respectfully submitted:

Lieutenant Commander John Glynn of Glynstewart, CStJ, FSA Scot, USN (Ret.)
Secretary
