07a. First Green Rod

Arms: Quarterly: 1st and 4th, Azure two rods in saltire Or ( Badge of Office), 2nd and 3rd, OR on a bend Sable three mascells Argent, a chief Azure charged with as many mullets Argent ( Brand ); Over all an inescutcheon gyrony of eight Ermine and Gules with in a bordure engrailed Gules ( Campbell of Lundy).

Sir Thomas Brand, Kt.(1669-1761)

Sir Thomas was born circa. 1669 and was the first ever Gentleman Usher of the Green Rod appointed to the Order of the Thistle. He was appointed by King George I in 1714. Sir Thomas was additionally appointed Gentleman Usher Daily Waiter to His Majesty and made a Knight Bachelor in 1721. He processed as Green Rod with Black Rod (Garter) in the Coronation of King George II in 1727 and died in office in 1761 in London at age 92 making him the longest serving Green Rod. He married the heiress to Campbell of Lundy.
