Members of the Baronetage of Nova Scotia are Armigers Too !
Since this album is concerned with titled Scots armigers, we thought was time for a look at some of the members of the Baronetage of Nova Scotia
Ever wonder who were the Premier and last Baronets of Nova Scotia and when were they created ?
SOURCES, NOTES and CREDITS: The sources used were the Wikipedia article on the “Baronetage of Nova Scotia”, Sir James Balfour Paul’s “The Scots Peerage”, Burke’s Peerage, Debrett’s Peerage, Burke’s Landed Gentry of Scotland, 19th edition, Douglas’ “Baronage of Scotland”, 1798, Wood’s & Douglas’ “Peerage of Scotland”, 1813 and Crawfurd’s ‘The Peerage of Scotland”, 1716.
The arms chosen are what we believe the then new first and last Nova Scotia baronets used or might have used and have been illustrated with renditions from John H. Gaylor. In general, the arms have been taken from illustrations and blazons from Paul’s “The Scots Peerage” published between 1904 and 1914.
Whilst we know who the first baronet was have discovered the last baronet as well, there were some challenges here. Creation dates and arms for several of the candidates for the last baronet were difficult to determine. But with the help of Mrs. Elizabeth Roads, LVO, Snawdoun Herald we have come up with the answer which will be explained in the text of the entry.
