Bishop Leo Edward O’Neil the 8th Bishop of Manchester, NH was born on 31 Jan 1928 in Holyoke, MA. O’Neil was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Springfield, MA by Bishop Christopher Joseph Weldon on 4 Jun 1955. On 30 Jun 1980 he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Springfield, MA by Pope John Paul II. Bishop O’Neil’s Principal Consecrator was Bishop Joseph Francis Maguire, Bishop of Springfield, MA. On 17 Oct 1989 Bishop O’Neil was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Manchester, NH. He succeeded as the 8th Bishop of Manchester, NH on 12 Jun 1990 the same day that Bishop Gendron resigned as 7th Bishop of Manchester, NH. Bishop O’Neil served as Bishop of Manchester, NH until 30 Nov 1997 when he died in office at age 69.
