SOURCE, NOTES AND CREDITS: Illustration and the caption’s text adapted for the entries from internet articles. From the various obituaries we read no birth date was given. We have given him therefore a tentative birthdate of 1 Aug 1935. Gordon Macpherson is entered here in the Auld Scots album because his arms are Scottish. They were granted to his father, the Rev. Dr. A. Gordon Macpherson on 3 Sep 1955 by Lord Lyon Sir Thomas Innes of Learney. These arms were matriculated on 14 Oct 1969 presumably by Gordon. The arms were confirmed at the college of arms in 1985 and registered with the Canadian Heraldic Authority on 15 Nov 2000.

Roderick Gordon Macpherson, CM, FRHSC, FRSA, FSA ( Scot) was born circa. 1 Aug 1935 to Rev. Dr. Gordon Macpherson and Mary Strathcona MacBeth. For a career Gordon went into securities and investments from which he retired as Vice President of RBC Dominion Securities in 1987.

His hobby of heraldry from the age of 19 became almost a fulltime passion. And he became famous for his heraldic bookplates. Within the Society of Scottish Armigers alone we know of two bookplates he did, one for Bill Boswell and one Dwyer Wedvick. In addition, we have added one for a Scottish friend, Gordon Casely. All three bookplates are shown in the Heraldic Insignia & Art album.

Gordon Macpherson married and had two children by his wife Nancy who predeceased him. He was the proud of having four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2008 for his prolific heraldic work. Sadly he passed away on 1 Sep 2023, age circa. 88, pray for his soul.

The artwork is an interpretation of Gordon Macpherson himself
