This hatchment of the arms of Frederick B Casely (1914-2008) was painted for him in great friendship by Mark Dennis.

Fred Casely served with City of Glasgow Police, rising to command a division. In old age, he delighted in the honorific given to him in the Heraldry Society of Scotland of “our senior member”.

Fred‘s son Gordon writes: “In 1998, aged 84, my dear Dad fell seriously, and wasn’t expected to live. Mark produced this beautiful hatchment for the inevitable funeral. But my Old Man hadn’t read the script, made a full recovery, and lived for another decade. He rejoiced in this by hanging the hatchment in his front room, and every night raising a glass to it”.

The blazon of the arms, recorded 1986, reads: Per chevron Or and Azure, in chief two cross-crosslets fitchy of the Second, and in base a castle triple-towered of the First, port and windows of the Second.

A really nice caption written by his son Gordon Casely a long term biographer of members and friends of the Heraldry Society of Scotland.

The artwork is a rendition by Mark Dennis and is reproduced here with his permission.
