Jules Cardinal Mazarin was born as Guilio Raimondo Mazzarino on 14 July 1602, he was a diplomat and politician who served as chief minister of France from 1642 until his death in 1661. He succeeded his mentor Cardinal Richelieu and was a noted collector of art, jewels books and money.

Well known through his characterization by Alexandre Dumas père in the “Twenty Years After” and “The Vicomte de Bragelonne” the last two of “The Three Musketeers” Trilogy. Mazarin died on 9 Mar 1661, at age 58.
