Katherine Matilda Swinton known as Tilda Swinton was born in 1960 to Sir John Swinton of Kimmerghame (1925-2018) and Judth Balfour Killen (1929-2012 in London.
Tilda Swinton is a Scottish actress, the winner of many awards including an Oscar as best Supporting Actress in ” Michael Clayton” in 2007, a British Academy Film Award and many others. She was thirteenth on the New York Times List of the 25 Greatest Actors
of the 21st Century.

The Swinton Family have lived in the Scottish Borders for centuries. Her Great Grandfather, George Swinton, CBE, in the direct paternal line was a Scottish politician, herald and Lord Lyon. Her maternal GGGF was John Hutton Balfour the Scottish botanist. Tilda Swinton considers herself “first and foremost” a Scot.

In boarding School Swinton was a classmate and friend of Lady Diana Spencer later Princess of Wales. In 1983 Swinton graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Social and Political Sciences.

She started acting in 1984 & this career path continues to the present.

Tilda Swinton whilst unmarried is entitled entitled to use the arms of her great grandfather
George Swinton, CBE, by courtesy with out need for matriculation even though she has/had three brothers. Swinton has two children by a partner. One of the children is Honor Swinton Byrne (1997-) who is also a Scottish actress.

Tilda and family have lived in Scotland for over two decades, currently in Nairn, overlooking the Moray Firth in the Highlands of Scotland, with her children and partner Sandro Kopp, a German painter. In 2018, she stated her support for Scottish independence.
