01. Nelson’s Captains at Trafalgar

Illustration of J. M. W. Turner’s 1822 painting of the Battle of Trafalgar of 21 Oct 1805

In “The Double Tressure” of 2005, No. 28, Peter Drummond-Murray of Mastrick published a wonderful article on “Nelson’s Captains” roughly 200 years after Nelson’s Victory at Trafalgar on 21 Oct 1805. The significance of this battle need not be discussed here as the knowledge is well known and documented in history books and the internet.

The original article consists of twentyfive pages of text with eight colour illustrations by artist Mark D. Dennis included. We are fortunate as Mark Denis has given his permission to reproduce his illustrations to which “The Double Tressure” editor, James Floyd, has added his permission as well.

We are not going reprint the article but plan to merely accompany the illustrations with short captions. We will add more illustrations by different artists with captions to complete out the series.
