Sir Thomas Brand, Knt.(1669-1761)

ARMS: Quarterly first and fourth Azure two rods in saltire Or ( Badge of Office), second and third OR on a bend Sable three mascells Argent a chief Azure charged with as many mullets of the third ( Brand ); Over all an escutcheon gyrony of eight Ermine and Gules with in a bordure engrailed of the last ( Campbell of Lundy).

Sir Thomas was born circa. 1669 and was the first ever Usher of the Green Rod appointed to the Order of the Thistle in 1714 by King George I. He was also appointed Gentleman Usher Daily waiter to His Majesty and made a Knight Batchelor in 1721. He processed as Green Rod with Black Rod ( Garter) in the Coronation of King George II and died in office in 1761 in London at age 92 making him the longest serving Green Rod. He married the heiress to Campbell of Lundy. dqw 20110412
