This hatchment of the arms of Frederick B Casely (1914-2008) was painted for him in great friendship by Mark Dennis.
Fred Casely served with City of Glasgow Police, rising to command a division. In old age, he delighted in the honorific given to him in the Heraldry Society of Scotland of âour senior memberâ.
Fredâs son Gordon writes: âIn 1998, aged 84, my dear Dad fell seriously, and wasnât expected to live. Mark produced this beautiful hatchment for the inevitable funeral. But my Old Man hadnât read the script, made a full recovery, and lived for another decade. He rejoiced in this by hanging the hatchment in his front room, and every night raising a glass to itâ.
The blazon of the arms, recorded 1986, reads: Per chevron Or and Azure, in chief two cross-crosslets fitchy of the Second, and in base a castle triple-towered of the First, port and windows of the Second.
A really nice caption written by his son Gordon Casely a long term biographer of members and friends of the Heraldry Society of Scotland.
The artwork is a rendition by Mark Dennis and is reproduced here with his permission.
