According to a Lyon Court news release Mark Dennis retired from the Lyon Court post of Ross Herald Extraordinary on 22 January 2020.

Mark Donald Dennis, OStJ, BA, JD, LLM (Cantab.), FSA Scot, FHSS, born in California, USA in 1950 with dual citizenship in the US and the UK. He first practiced as an attorney in Petaluma, CA before moving to Scotland to pursue a career at the Scottish Bar where he is an advocate, an Immigration Judge and an artist. He is an Officer of the Most Venerable Order of St. John and Limner to the Order of St. John in Scotland. He is also Chairman of the St. Andrews Fund for Scots Heraldry 1995- and Past Chairman and now Vice President of the Heraldry Society of Scotland. He also enjoys playing the Highland bagpipes. He was appointed Ross Herald Extraordinary on 4 December 2017 and was formerly Ormond Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary 2009-2017.

He married in 1981 Dr. Rona Ruth Ramsay, daughter of Hugh Wallace Ramsay and they have four children. His heir David William Ramsay who was born in 1983, Alasdair Hugh Ramsay born in 1986, a daughter Sarah Elizabeth Ramsay born in 1989 and his youngest son Peter John Ramsay born in 1994. He is co-author of “Scotland’s Heraldic Heritage-The Lion Rejoicing”, 1997 and the author of “Scottish Heraldry”, 1999.
