François de Bourbon-Vendome, duc de Beaufort, 16 Jan 1616 – 25 Jun 1669. He was the son of Cesar de Bourbon-Vendome and Francoise de Lorraine and grandson (petit-fils) of Henri IV of France and his mistress Gabrielle d’Estrées. François was therefore ( cousin germain) first cousin to Louis XIV.

Our duc de Beaufort played interesting parts in the sequels to A. Dumas’ “The Three Musketeers” in “Twenty Years After” and “The Vicomte de Bragelonne”.

The artwork is an interpretation of John Hamilton Gaylor
