Sir Joseph Duveen, 1st Baron Duveen, born 14 Oct 1869 in England, was an art dealer, connoisseur, collector and philanthropist. He was created a Kt. Bach. on 5 Nov 1919, a Baronet on 15 Feb 1927 and Baron Duveen of Millbank in the city of Westminister, on 3 Feb 1933 in the Peerage of the UK.

He lived on East 91st St, New York City, NY, USA. As President of Duveen Bros, Inc. of New York and Paris and of Duveen Bros. Ltd of London, Duveen sold “old masters”, etc. to the great collectors of the New World and sometime of the Old in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. When he died on 25 May 1939, his titles became extinct.

Lord Duveen was the eldest son of Sir Joseph Joel Duveen, a Jewish Dutchman born in Holland in 1843, who immigrated to England and had eight sons and four daughters, became a dealer in antiques and later works of art and a benefactor of the Tate and National Galleries, who was created a Kt. Bach. in 1908, and died later that same year on 8 November. dqw 20110402
