Fraser of Ledeclune

Arms: Quarterly:1st and 4th, Azure, a bend engrailed between three cinquefoils (or frasers) Argent a canton gyronny of eight Or and Sable; 2nd and 3rd Argent three antique crowns Gules.

The Fraser of Ledeclune baronetcy was created for William Fraser of Ledeclune in Inverness, Scotland on 27 Nov 1806 as a Baronet of the United Kingdom. Sir William was a direct descendant of Alexander Fraser, 2nd son of Hugh, 1st Lord Lovat.

Lt. Col. Sir James John Fraser, 3rd Bt. born in 1789, served with the 7th Hussars in Spain during the Peninsular War and on the staff of the Duke of Wellington during the Waterloo Campaign, he died on 5 Jun 1834. The 4th and 5th Baronets served as Members of Parliament. The 6th, and last Baronet, was Sir Keith Charles Adolphus Fraser born on 14 Sep 1911 who married twice but produced no heirs and died in 1979 when the baronetcy went extinct.

The appeal of this family is their arms, which a bit complicated, but of interest still. A bookplate of the family achievement to include their granted supporters is displayed on the cover of “Scottish Bookplates” by Brian North Lee and Ilay Campbell, London 2006.

We wish to credit the internet articles especially Wikipedia for their information regarding the Frasers of Ledeclune and Burke’s Peerage, the 105th edition of 1970 for information on the Frasers of Ledeclune found there on page 1047.

The artwork is a rendering of John Hamilton Gaylor.
