Archibald Rae Gaylor was born on on 3 Apr 1910, at Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, the 5th son of Fergus Gaylor and his wife Jeanie, daughter of Alexander Brown. Fergus and Jeanie were married on 27 Sep. 1889 at Coatbridge.
Archie married Mollie, 4th daughter of Charles Peaks on 31 May 1937. From 1928 he served in the Army and during his career he served in every rank but one from private to major. Early in WW2 he was commissioned in the Royal Army Service Corps and was demobilized in 1945 as a major. He worked briefly as a policeman then rejoined the Army as a Lieutenant. He was sent to Palestine where he was Mentioned in Dispatches, then in Kenya, then in Colchester, England with his last posting being Singapore before his retirement in 1955.
Archie and Mollie had one son, John Hamilton Gaylor born on Easter Sunday ( 17 Apr) 1938.
Archibald Rae Gaylor died on 23 Dec 1996, at age 86, and was succeeded in arms by John Hamilton Gaylor.
