Sir William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, OM, GCVO, PC, FRS, FRSE, born in Belfast Ireland, on 16 June 1824, His family moved to Glasgow Scotland when he was a youngster. He was a British mathematician, physicist and engineer He was the professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow for 53 years, He was knighted as Sir William Thomas in 1866 for his efforts and assistance in the successful laying of the Atlantic Cable.

He received the Royal Society’s Copley Medal in 1883 and served as its president from 1890 to 1895. In 1892, he became the first British scientist to be elevated to the House of Lords as 1st Lord Kelvin. In 1896 he was appointed a Grand Cross of the Victorian Order.

Lord Kelvin died on 17 Dec 1907, without heirs and the title went extinct.
