Pope Leo XIV born Robert Francis Prevost on September 14, 1955) is the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State. He was elected pope in the 2025 conclave on May 8 following the death and funeral of Pope Francis.

Born in Chicago, Prevost became a friar of the Order of Saint Augustine in 1977 and was ordained a priest in 1982. A citizen of the United States by birth and Peru by naturalization.
