John Adrian Louis Hope, 1st Marquess of Linlithgow, 7th Earl of Hopetoun, KT, GCMG, GCVO, PC was born on 25 Sep 1860, The most important event of his career was his serving as Governor-General of Australia 1900-1902. Upon his return to the United Kingdom he was created Marquess of Linlithgow, in the County of Linlithgow or West Lothian, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom on 23 October 1902 by King Edward VII. He died on 29 Feb 1908, age 47.

The current holder of the title is Adrian John Charles Hope who is the 4th Marquess of Linlithgow.
