St. Ignatius Loyola was born on 24 Dec 1491 to a noble Spanish family whose Castle of Loyola was in the Basque province of GuipĂşzcoa, Spain, he was a soldier first before becoming a religious.

St. Ignatius Loyola was the founder of the Society of Jesus and compiler & formulator of the “Spiritual Exercises”. As a saint he is styled a Confessor. One of his closest associates and followers was St. Francis Xavier.

St. Ignatius was beatified 27 Jul 1609 by Pope Paul V and Canonized on 12 Mar 1622 by Pope Gregory XV. His feast day is 31 July.
