Lord Lyon 1542 to 1555, Sir David Lindsay was then more widely known as a poet, playwright and diplomat, he was regarded as Scotland’s national poet until the emergence of Burns. He produced a masterly painted armorial, one of the finest of the period, approved by the Scots Privy Council as official.

Our original copy of this work is, “Fac Simile of an Ancient Heraldic Manuscript Emblazoned by Sir David Lyndsay of the Mount, Lyon King of Arms 1542”, edited by David Laing, LLD, Edinburgh, published by William Patterson, 1878 and sometime owned by a 19th Century Scot, Jacobvs Cowan de Rosshall, whose heraldic bookplate is pasted within. Our new copy is “The Armorial of Sir David Lyndsay of the Mount”, in 2 volumes, edited by Alex Maxwell Findlater, Published by the Heraldry Society of Scotland, Edinburgh 2018.
