MAJ Randal Ray Massey of Dunham, USA (Ret.) the SSA’s founding chairman, died on 31st May 2025. He had been suffering from Afib and congestive heart failure for the past 18 months and passed away peacefully in his sleep, according to Holly, his wife of 35 years.
He was born on 17 November 1949 and was 75 at the time of his death, which she indicated was about average for the Massey men in his family. He is survived by his wife Holly, his son and heir Randal, and grandchildren Coleson and Siena.
Randal was commissioned in 1973 through OCS into the National Guard as an Infantry Officer and transferred to the Quartermaster Corps of Army Reserve in 1988. His last duty assignment was as a Major with the 3rd Army, serving in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm, where he was injured while jumping out of a helicopter and medically retired. His one regret was that while he’d been selected for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel he’d not yet been promoted at the time of his injury and retirement.
He was a great friend to many of us and the principal impetus for the founding of the Society, working with Lord Lyon Sir Malcolm Innes of Edingight.
The artwork is an interpretation of John Hamilton Gaylor.
