Name That Laird, No. 9, Named
Arms: Or; on a bend Azure, between a rose slipped Gules leaves barbed and seeded Vert in sinister chief and a mullet Gules in dexter base, a six-pointed mullet between two crescents Or.
Laird No. 9 is/was Eoin Flett Scott of Redland Born in June 1942, he submitted a petition for a matriculation of his arms based on a rubbing of heraldic arms on a stone from a mill which had fallen down on his property in Sanday, Orkney, said property having been in his family since before 1550.
The document with the rubbing was pinned to the wall in Lyon Office for two years before it was found to be in reverse exactly copied from a seal matrix by an illiterate stone mason carver. The arms were based on the stone at Redland and were matriculated on the basis of ancient user. The date of the matriculation was 11 Jan 1967 when Sir Thomas Innes of Learney was Lord Lyon.
The ancestor of Eoin Flett Scott of Redland was one David Walter Scott, who was a well-known Border Reiver in the first quarter of the 16th century and who came and settled in Sanday, Orkney before 1550. Eoin Flett Scott of Redland died on 5 June 2013 at age 70.
