Jameson Riley McShane Johnson of Tyrone, LM, KM was born in Helena, Montana in 1966. A graduate of The Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina, he received graduate degrees from Princeton, Harvard, and Virginia Polytechnic. He attended the US Army Command and General Staff College and the US Air Force War College. Jameson is a retired Army officer having spent 30 years in service in the active and reserve/guard forces, where he retired as a Colonel on the General Staff.

A veteran of wars in Iraq, Western Sahara, and Afghanistan, he twice served as a commander in combat, a military attaché in Tunisia, Morocco, and Australia, an aide de camp, on the Army Staff, and as a Defense Fellow in the US Senate. Colonel Johnson has received military awards including the Legion of Merit, Army campaign and merit medals, and foreign orders and decorations. He is a Knight of Malta in Germany.

With the permission of The O’Neill in Portugal in 2012 and accepted by the O’Neill Council in Ireland in 2013 the armiger holds the undifferenced arms used in the seal of his ancestral grandfather Hugh Reamhar Mor, King of Tyrone, (1314- 1364), through his great-great-grandson Shane O’Neill, Prince of Tyrone (1530-1567) with descent through his son Conn Mac Shane O’Neill, first Chief of the McShanes, down to the armiger. He represents the Tyrone branch of the royal O’Neills on the O’Neill Family Council and serves as Chief of the Mac Shane (McShane/Johnson) sept of the O’Neills of Ulster, Ireland.
