George Washington was born on 22 February 1732, as General Washington he was the leader of the Continental Army of the North American Rebellion against England, and with his strategy, captured the two main British armies at Saratoga and Yorktown. Following the end of the war in 1783, George III asked what Washington would do next and was told the rumors were that he would return to his farm, prompting to the King to say, “ if he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world.” Washington did return to private life and retired to his plantation at Mount Vernon. Subsequently, Washington became the 1st President of the United States on 30 Apr 1789 serving until 4 Mar 1797. His main thrust in government was to keep the US at peace so the nation could build. He died on 14 Dec 1799 at age 67. Henry Lee delivering the eulogy, declared Washington, “first in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen”. dqw 20100711
