Xavier, St. Francis

Arms: Gules a fess checky of two tracts and in base a bar checky of one tract Or and Sable and in chief an inverted crescent radially compony Sable and Or and plain voided Argent.

St. Francis Xavier ( In Spanish: San Francisco Javier) was born on April 7, 1506, in Xavier (Javier) Castle, near SangĂĽesa, Navarre (now a part of Spain).

In 1534 in Paris, France he pronounced vows as one of the first seven members of the Society of Jesus, or Jesuits, under the leadership of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

St. Francis Xavier was the greatest Roman Catholic missionary of modern times who was instrumental in the establishment of Christianity in India, the Malay Archipelago, and Japan.

He died on Dec 3, 1552, age 54 in Sancian (now Shangchuan Island), China.

St. Francis was canonized March 12, 1622 and his feast day is December 3.
