Francis Thomas Donahue

ARMS: Vert two foxes rampant combatant Argent, on a chief of the last an eagle volant sable, overall a bordure Gules.

SOURCE/NOTES & CREDITS: Source for blazon: D.Q. Wedvick, the undifferenced Donahue arms came on a tile from the estate of our uncle, Francis Thomas Donahue. The blazon for the undifferenced arms came from, “Irish Families”, by Edward MacLysaght, sometime Chief Herald of Ireland, Hodges Figgis & Co., Ltd., Dublin, 1957, Plate IX. We differenced the arms for our uncle with a bordure Gules with the blazon then re-worked by J.H. Gaylor. So these are arms attributed by us retrospectively to our uncle.

Francis Thomas Donahue, 1911-1997, was our uncle by marriage to my mother’s younger
sister, Helen Rita Dwyer, 1919-1978. Uncle Frank stood as sponsor at our Confirmation by H. E. the Most Rev. Msgr. James Aloysius McNulty, Auxiliary Bishop of Newark ( see his file ) on the 30th of March 1952 and was the collateral descendant of our “kissin cousin”, H. E. the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Frederick Ignatius Horstmann, D.D., 3rd Bishop of Cleveland, Ohio. ( see his file ). dqw 20100404

The artwork is a rendering by John Hamilton Gaylor.
