Arms: Armorial Général, J.B. Rietstap, Tome I, page 515, family from Normandy and Champagne. The previous Marquis, Antoine-Alexandre, had a son by his Creole lady friend who became General Dumas but predeceased his father so his son Alexandre became the next Marquis. It is not believed he used the title. Instead Alexandre became the world famous French novelist. He was born in 1802 and died in France 5 December 1870. He became known as Alexandre Dumas, père when his son became a famous author in his own right as Alexandre Dumas, fils. Dumas; père wrote prolifically… novels, plays, travelogues, etc., most well known for his novels “The Three Musketeers” and the “Count of Monte Cristo”.
